Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Bayside Sod is a sod producer. We have been growing sod since 1987 and we have approximately 900 acres of sod under production.

Yes. We have multiple varieties of St. Augustine - Floratam, Scott's ProVista, and Bitter Blue. In addition, we have Empire Zoysia, Bimini Bermuda and Bahia available.

Good news. We can help you. With a few questions, we will be able to better understand what varieties are applicable and provide you with a recommendation that best suits your needs.

Yes. We grow a couple of sod varieties that have shade tolerance. However, all sod requires at least 4 hours of good sunlight per day.

Yes.  Bayside does have a store front where you can see the different varieties of sod. The store is located at: 15140 FL-64, Bradenton, FL 34212.

Bayside Sod sells sod by the piece (24” x 16” = 2.67 square feet) and by the pallet (400 square feet), so you have flexibility and can buy/order as little as 1 piece to multiple pallets.

For homeowners, sod pieces are sold for $2.75 each, regardless of sod variety. Pallet prices vary by variety type. Please call us for latest pricing and if there are any specials. Landscapers should also call us for current pricing.

You can always pick up your sod at the store but we do have delivery services. For homeowners, delivery is free in Bradenton and Sarasota and we do charge a nominal delivery fee for surrounding areas. Please note, we do require a minimum of 1 pallet if we are delivering the sod. Also, Landscapers have the added flexibility of picking up your sod at our store or we can delivery direct to your project site if that suits you better.

Yes. Bayside Sod does provide Install Services for your sod project. Please call us to receive a free proposal. An estimator will schedule a visit to your location so they can measure your project, understand what is required for the installation of the project, and answer any questions you may have. We will then provide an electronic proposal for your review. Assuming you agree, you can sign the proposal electronically and we will move forward with scheduling your installation project.

A site visit is required to provide an accurate proposal for your specific project.  However, for budgeting purposes, typical pricing is somewhere between $1.00 to $1.75 per sq ft for an installation project.  While this may seem like a wide range, there are many factors that can impact the cost of a sod project, such as:

  • Sod variety being installed

  • Do we have access to the yard in order to do removal and get product in the yard or is a wheelbarrow required?

  • Do we need to remove existing sod and/or weeds?

  • Do we need to provide simple grading?

  • Is dirt and/or Command Compost recommended or required for the project?

  • Are there lots of special cuts required in laying the sod?

As mentioned, our proposal is free so give us a call so we can provide you an accurate price for your project.

Not in all cases. This will be determined as part of the estimator visit. There are certain items (e.g. common Bermuda and torpedo grass) that when seen, we will want the yard sprayed and killed prior to installing your new sod. Bayside Sod will have the spraying done and this will be included as part of your project. Bayside Sod typically waits 7-14 days after spraying before we will install your new sod. There are cases where spraying is not required. Whether spraying is required or not, as part of the install we will utilize a sod cutter to remove your old grass/weeds before installing the new sod.

We highly recommend our clients have irrigation. If you do not have an irrigation system, we offer Bahia grass which is a good option for clients with no irrigation.

No. Bayside Sod does not provide sprinkler installation or service. However, if for some reason we were to break something on your sprinkler during our installation, we would be responsible for fixing the issue.

As a homeowner, when Bayside Sod installs your sod, you will receive an introductory e-mail followed by 4 weekly e-mails providing you helpful hints regarding the establishment of your new lawn. Bayside Sod does recommend that you contract with a chemical spray company as they will be able to help you on an on-going basis with your lawn. Bayside Sod can provide some recommendations concerning chemical spray companies if required.

Bayside Sod does repair work. For example, a common install project we are contacted about is repair work after a new pool construction. Typically, we required at least one pallet of sod (400 sq ft) for any install projects.
